This easy chocolate brownie recipe will be in the oven as quick as a wink. It has a classic brownie texture and tons of deep, dark chocolate flavor.

Chocolate Brownie Recipe
This quick and simple chocolate brownie recipe uses unsweetened chocolate for a powerful chocolate flavor. It’s a classic brownie with a classic brownie taste:
- Fudgy, but not too dense
- Rich dark chocolate flavor
- A little bit of chewiness around the edges
An excellent all-around brownie! It just might remind you of the made-from-scratch brownies you had as a kid. (If you have cocoa powder but not unsweetened chocolate, try this Easy Brownie Recipe.)

I had some baking chocolate to use up, this worked great.

Is this the original recipe that was on the Bakers Chocolate box in the 1980’s?
Katie Moseman
This recipe was on the box in 2014. It’s quite possible that it is the same one from the 80s, although only the Baker’s Chocolate company would be able to say for sure.

I have a recipe from the Baker ‘s box that is probably from the 70’s or 80’s. It is different from the one posted here. Here it is:
2/3 cup unsifted flour
1/4 tsp salt
2 squares Baker’s Unsweetened Chocolate
1 cup sugar
1/2 tsp Calumet baking powder
1/3 cup butter or other shortening
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 cup chopped nuts
Mix flour with baking powder and salt. Melt chocolate and butter over hot water. Beat eggs well, gradually add sugar, beating well. Beat in chocolate and vanilla. Mix in flour, then stir in nuts. Spread in greased 8 in square pan. Bake at 360 for 25 minutes. Cool before cutting. Makes 20 brownies.

How many ounces equal two squares of the original Baker’s chocolate? I’m trying to convert so I can use the new bar chocolate when making the old recipes.
Katie Moseman
The original Baker’s chocolate is 1 square = 1 ounce. So 2 squares = 2 ounces.

Perfect brownies! I have used the recipe several times with great results although I do add about 6 oz of chocolate chips, a pinch of cinnamon and a 1/4 teaspoon of almond extract to enhance the chocolate flavor.
