Florida’s winter produce is full of fresh, delicious choices!  From tomatoes, blueberries, and peppers, to seafood and more, the Sunshine State has it all.

What’s in Season During Winter in Florida?

Do you picture winter as a time for squashes and root vegetables?  It’s time to expand your horizons, because there are over two dozen types of produce that are in season in Florida during the winter.  Here are some examples:

  • Bell peppers
  • Broccoli
  • Cabbage
  • Carambola
  • Cauliflower
  • Celery
  • Cucumbers
  • Eggplant
  • Grapefruit
  • Guava
  • Lettuce
  • Mushrooms
  • Oranges
  • Papayas
  • Peanuts
  • Potatoes
  • Radishes
  • Snap beans
  • Spinach
  • Squash
  • Strawberries
  • Sweet corn
  • Tangerines
  • Tomatoes

It’s a real treat to visit the produce section when there’s so much to choose from.

For example, you might imagine that sweet corn is a summertime food.  You’ll be surprised to learn that it’s available throughout the winter when it’s Fresh From Florida!  Get my favorite corn on the cob recipe to take full advantage of this winter bounty.

Craving fruit?  Reach for this season’s sweet Fresh From Florida blueberries.

Or grab some ripe, juicy tomatoes for topping salads, sandwiches, and more.

Whether you pick up your Fresh From Florida produce at a farm or in a grocery store, you can download a free cookbook for plenty of recipe ideas.  Get The Florida Chef’s Flavorful Seasons Cookbook in English or Spanish.

Or, if you prefer, you can browse and search recipes on the Fresh from Florida recipes page.  I like to browse through the recipe collection when I need inspiration.  I love this Florida Blueberry Key Lime Pie!

I wish I lived in a place where we could have our garden growing all of the time. My kids would DIE to have fresh sweet corn right now. But unfortunately I have to buy the frozen until the corn starts to grow again.

Thank goodness for states like FL. Otherwise those of us stuck in the frozen tundra won’t get to enjoy amazing veggies and fruit during the cold winter months.

Fantastic list! I now wonder what is in season for the fruits and veggies in California. I try to visit a lot of Farmer’s markets and just see what they have to offer.

I wish I could have a garden. I’ve been checking out some raised options for the future. I love fresh produce.

I’m totally jealous! Doesn’t seem like there’s a whole lot coming up right here at this time (it freaking SNOWED last night!). Luckily I’m close enough to FL that I can readily get FL blueberries at the grocery story.

Some of my family were visiting North Carolina this past weekend, and sure enough, it snowed on them, too! Such a foreign concept to us Floridians. 🙂
