Whole Wheat Brownies

You'd never guess that these are whole wheat! They're just as delicious and fudgy as a traditional brownie!

  • 3 oz unsweetened chocolate broken or chopped to pieces
  • 8 TB unsalted butter 1 stick
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup plus 2 TB whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder


  1. Preheat oven to 350 and prepare an 8 inch square pan by lining it with foil or parchment paper.
  2. In a microwaveable bowl, melt butter and chocolate together in 20 second bursts, stirring in between, until completely melted and smooth.
  3. In a large bowl, combine butter and chocolate mixture with sugar and stir. Add eggs and stir. Add vanilla and salt. Stir.
  4. Add flour and sprinkle in the baking powder. Stir until flour is just incorporated. Pour batter into prepared pan and smooth out.
  5. Bake approximately 20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out with moist crumbs, but not wet batter.
  6. Set pan on a rack to cool.
