Sometimes in life, you get thrown a curveball and you have to make the best of it.
Recently, I found out that the phrase “Perfect Brownie” is already being used as a trademark by kitchenware company. It’s my own fault, really, for not researching my blog name more thoroughly before choosing it. So, now that I need to change my blog name, I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about what I will change it to.
Some wiser heads out there in food blogger land have gently suggested that I make my blog name less specific, because there might come a day in the future where I don’t want brownies to be the sole focus any more. Being open to advice is a good thing, I think.
However, I love my mission of searching for the perfect brownie, and I don’t want to give it up. I know that I won’t be motivated to keep going if I don’t have something to strive for, whether it be the perfect brownie, the perfect fruit crumble, or the perfect French onion soup.
With that in mind, my goal is to change the name of my blog to something that expands my horizons, yet preserves the essential motivation for why I blog.
What won’t change is how I write and how I take pictures (other than to get better at it, I hope), and what also won’t change is how much I love to interact with everyone who stops by. I want you to know about this change before it happens, and hopefully I can get your blessing. If not, I hope I can convince you that if you stick around my blog, you’ll find that it’s still me, pursuing my dreams of the perfect this-or-that, and having some laughs along the way.
There are a lot of technical details (new domain, new social media, etc.) that take time to sort out, but I’m planning on completing the process by February. New posts will continue to appear regularly and I promise that even after the name change, there will continue to be a steady supply of brownies.
I’d love it if you would drop me a line in the comments and let me know what you think.
All the best,
Katie

I do not see how anyone could copyright “perfect anything”. There are thousands of recipes on the internet using that same name! craziness-
I just found your blog, so I will still follow whatever the name becomes ๐
Best of luck to you-
Katie
LaFawne, I am so serious- I teared up when I read this. You have made my day! Thank you!
Jennifer
I don’t understand how the phrase could be trademarked. Did the company approach you about changing it?
Good luck. It’s so tough to think of a good name.
Katie
The company hasn’t approached me, thankfully. You’d be surprised what can be trademarked. Simple, generic phrases that you wouldn’t think possible. Boy, have I learned my lesson!

That is so, so frustrating! I’m sorry! I’m a new blogger as well, and it seems like there are so many things I had NO idea about six months ago. What a tough experience. ๐ Keep on with your quest! We’re all sticking around!

Booooo! The whole “trademark” issue is terrifying. It sucks on our end, because we don’t mean any harm by it, and it sucks on their end because (I *believe* that if the owner of a trademark doesn’t go after those who use it, big and small, it can become nullified, so a larger corporation can steal it at that point).
I’m looking forward to the new name though! Things like that can be fun sometimes, and who knows what it’ll inspire down the road. Still a pain in the butt though!

I’m actually starting to feel a little excited about it, now that the cold sweat of terror has worn off. ๐

How about the Perfect brownE Same name done a bit differently.
Katie
Good thought! But it’s still close enough to cause future issues. Fear not! I have a brand new blog title coming very soon! ๐

uggg! So sorry to hear that. There is always a better name right around the corner. Best wishes
Katie
Thanks! I’m digging “Recipe for Perfection” now, but will always remember my perfect brownie roots!
