Make a beautiful yogurt bar with real fresh fruit and herb toppings! This recipe pairs fresh fruits with herbs to create easy, elegant yogurt parfait cups.

Fruit and Herb Yogurt Bar

My kids love what they call “pick-your-own-food.”  Whether it’s a buffet or an ice cream topping bar, they adore making their own unique creations.

My strategy for back-to-school snacks and desserts has been to harness this idea into delicious, nutrient-packed food choices that are loads of fun to make and eat.  Back-to-school doesn’t have to mean back to the same old boring snacks!

Small FAGE Total Greek Yogurt container

I like to use FAGE Total 2% Greek Yogurt to create a yogurt bar for the whole family to enjoy.

FAGE Total 2% Greek Yogurt is an all natural Greek strained yogurt made with only milk and live active yogurt cultures.  It’s thick, creamy, and and just the right amount of tart.

Not only does it taste wonderfully rich, but it’s also a good source of calcium and protein.  Plus, FAGE Total 2% Greek Yogurt is Non-GMO Project Verified, and it’s additive and preservative free.

You’ll surprise and delight your taste buds when you top it with different combinations of fresh fruit and herbs.

I keep a few pots of fresh herbs on my porch for this very purpose.  Basil, mint, rosemary, and sage are some of my favorites that are easy to grow in containers.

Honey is one of the toppings I splurge on.  Show me a honey that’s locally produced, or a varietal (from one type of plant) like orange blossom or tupelo honey, and I will snap it up.

FAGE Total 2% Greek Yogurt has no added sugar, so if you like a little sweetness, good honey adds the perfect touch.

A bit of crunch from granola adds texture, and before you know it, you have an edible work of art that’s unique for each member of your family.

Since FAGE Total 2% Greek Yogurt is gluten free, you can select a gluten free granola to make the whole yogurt bar completely gluten free.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups FAGE Total 2% Greek Yogurt
  • 4 ounces strawberries sliced, hulls removed
  • 4 ounces blackberries
  • 2 mandarin oranges peeled and separated
  • 1/2 lemon sliced
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/2 cup granola gluten free if desired
  • fresh basil
  • fresh sage
  • fresh rosemary
  • fresh mint

Instructions

  1. Scoop one cup of FAGE Total 2% Greek Yogurt into a bowl.  Select an herb and chop it to produce 1/4 teaspoon of chopped herb.  Stir it into the yogurt.  Repeat with additional bowls of yogurt to make 4 bowls.

  2. Top with each bowl with fruit.  Recommended pairings: blackberry with sage, lemon with rosemary, orange with basil, and strawberry with mint.  Sprinkle on 2 tablespoons of granola and drizzle on 1 tablespoon of honey.  Garnish with a sprig of herb if desired.  Serve immediately.

Recipe Notes

You can also zest an extra lemon and/or orange, then stir the zest into the yogurt for additional flavor.

I love the concept of a fruit and herb yogurt bar. Adding herbs can give it additional flavors to make the yogurt amazing!

I definitely need to add more lowfat yogurt to my diet. I could use the low fat dairy for many different health reasons. This looks delicious.

Yogurt is such a great thing to have in a snack. It’s full of protein. I also love that this is gluten-free for those who cannot eat gluten.
